The Story Behind Dunki

Shah Rukh Khan’s new movie, Dunki, is set to release on December 21st. People are already talking about it because of its interesting title and storyline. The filmmakers recently shared a video where Shah Rukh Khan, Taapsee Pannu, and Rajkumar Hirani discuss the inspiration behind the movie. In the video, Shah Rukh Khan shows a picture of a house in Jalandhar that caught their attention. On top of the house, there was a cement airplane. This unique sight inspired Rajkumar Hirani to create Dunki.

A Unique Tradition

Rajkumar Hirani explains that in Jalandhar, there is a tradition where people build these airplane structures on their houses when a family member goes abroad. Most of the time, these structures are used as water tanks, but in some houses, there are even bedrooms underneath them. It was the first time Rajkumar Hirani had seen something like this, and it sparked his imagination.

The Visa Gurdwara

Shah Rukh Khan also showed pictures of a gurdwara, which is known as the visa gurdwara. People visit this gurdwara to offer their passports. Outside the gurdwara, toy airplanes are sold. Rajkumar Hirani explains that the character Mannu, played by Taapsee Pannu in the movie, is based on a real-life visa engineer.
