Apple fans, rejoice! Apple has confirmed that it will release iOS 16.5, the latest version of its mobile operating system, to the public next week. Bringing some new features and improvements to your iPhone. The announcement came as part of a press release introducing a new Pride Edition band for the Apple Watch today.

iOS 16.5 has been in beta testing since late March and includes some new features and improvements for iPhone users. Here are some of the highlights of what’s new in iOS 16.5:

New Feature

New Pride Celebration wallpaper
One of the highlights of this update is the new Pride Celebration wallpaper, which matches the new Pride Edition band for the Apple Watch. The wallpaper features a colorful geometric design that represents the diversity and beauty of the LGBTQ+ community. You can get the wallpaper for free by updating your iPhone to iOS 16.5 next week.

New Sports tab to the Apple News app
iOS 16.5 also adds a new Sports tab to the Apple News app, where you can find news, scores, and schedules for your favorite teams and leagues. Whether you’re into football, basketball, baseball, or soccer, you’ll never miss a game with the Sports tab. You can also customize your preferences and follow your favorite sources.

Screen recording with Siri
Another handy feature in iOS 16.5 is the ability to start a screen recording with Siri. This is useful if you want to capture something on your iPhone’s screen without having to use Control Center. Just say “Hey Siri, start a screen recording” and Siri will do the rest. You can also ask Siri to stop the recording when you’re done.

Key differences between iOS 16.5 and previous versions

FaceTime Spatial Audio
One of the most anticipated features of iOS 16.5 is FaceTime Spatial Audio, which will make video calls more immersive and realistic. With this feature, users will be able to hear the voices of their friends and family from different directions, depending on their position on the screen. This will create a sense of depth and presence as if they were in the same room. FaceTime Spatial Audio will work with AirPods Pro and AirPods Max, as well as compatible speakers and headphones.

SharePlay Music
Another feature that will enhance the FaceTime experience is the SharePlay Music, which will allow users to listen to music together during a video call. Users will be able to create playlists, control playback, and see what others are listening to. SharePlay Music will work with Apple Music and other streaming services that support SharePlay.

New Privacy Dashboard
iOS 16.5 will also introduce a new Privacy Dashboard, which will give users more control and transparency over how apps use their data. The Privacy Dashboard will show users how often apps access their location, camera, microphone, contacts, photos, and other data. Users will be able to revoke or change permissions for any app at any time. The Privacy Dashboard will also show users which apps use App Tracking Transparency, which requires apps to ask for permission before tracking users across other apps and websites.

  1. A redesigned Safari browser with a customizable start page, tab groups, and extensions.

  2. A new Focus mode that lets users customize their notifications and home screen based on different activities and contexts.
